OPEN CALL  – Ongoing-basis

With the opening of this new space we are pleased to inform you of an open  call  for  “studio  residents”  interested  to  deepen  their  practice  and research, extend their vision, engage in collaboration, evolve new ideas and develop something longer term in Tokyo with a sense of affinity to the Co-iki concept.


Location: A two story house (A section 1F for studio resident. 2F living quarters of the owner.
Access:  15  minutes  walk  from  Sengawa  Station  on  the  Keio  line.  (18 minutes from Shinjuku to Sengawa on the Keio Rapid Train)
Facilities:  1F  –  tatami  mat  bedroom,  combined  event  space/studio space/living space Shared kitchen and bathroom
Other: Coordinators’ office(2F), Tea room(2F), owner’s room(2F)
*The 1F is shared with the owner. 2F is for the private use of the owner

Further details – The space overlooks allotments and a small woodland.
The local area is also home to a theater, music hall, art museum, various galleries, universities and educational facilities
Residence Period: From 2019 January- (minimum 2 months – maximum 6 months) Subject to negotiation depending upon the project proposal.

Residency&Support Fee: *subject to change after the program updates.

200,000yen/ per month + utility fee – Travel and daily expenses are to be covered by the resident themselves. Includes  coordination support 1-2 days a week. The owner also lives on the 2F and may be able to regularly consult with the resident and offer simple translation.

Suitable for:
●Artists,  curators,  researchers,  craftspeople,  entrepreneurs, professionals of all fields with no restriction on genre, age or nationality  (e.g.. art, music, performing arts, traditional arts, architecture, cuisine, literature, sociology, mathematics, biology etc.)
● A  creative  who  is  active  internationally  with  a  long  term  view  to developing new practices and ideas
●An interest to join in collaboration and the wish to work specifically in Tokyo.
●Someone  who  is  comfortable  with  visitors  coming  and  going  in  the open event/studio/living space, and not too concerned about absolute privacy of their room

How  to  apply:  Please  download  the  application form here and  send  to  the  email  address  indicated.  Applications  will  be  reviewed after the deadline and applicants may be asked to join in an interview via skype. Applicants will be informed of the result within 1 month following the deadline.
Further  details:  Coordination  support  in  research,  organizing  and production is also available. Working language English and Japanese.

Resident Support
Residents  in  this  program  are  expected  to  be  independent,  actively pursuing their research upon their own resources. co・iki does try to help as much as possible, offering coordination/consulting support of approximately  1 day a week, and with the director in residence participants don’t have to call far if they need a hand with something.

Co-ordination
The  co ・ iki  team  also  provide  a  coordination  service  for  creative professionals beyond the residence program. If you are visiting Japan with a particular project in mind but need help in realizing it please feel free to contact us. These services are subject to a separate charge.
● Professional Introductions – do you need to be put in touch with other professionals in the
field? We can contact key persons and make appointments for you to make your trip as
efficient as possible.
●  Translation – we are open to consultation on the translation of various documents
●  Interview Support – Do you plan to hold interviews or meetings but are worried about the language barrier? We can provide simple interpretation services in the key creative fields.
●  Research  Assistance  –  We  can  also  provide  assistance  in  collating  resources  and connecting you with people, places and documents for your research.

●Exhibition/Event Coordination/Programing

<Document Production> *Option
A small pamphlet will be made  as a document of the work and stay of each resident on the completion of their residency, with copies sent on to their forwarding address. * This is an optional service available at extra cost.
